The Daily Mail says Abramovich has recognised Di Matteo’s
impact on the team since he replaced Portuguese project Andre
Villas-Boas and is considering a full-time promotion at the end of the
season.
Various other candidates have been put to Abramovich by leading agents
since the dismissal of Villas-Boas, but Di Matteo is now among the
front-runners for one of the most precarious positions in world
football.
Di Matteo is coy over his interest in the job, but those close to him
say he longs for the chance to work on a long-term plan for the club
with No2 Eddie Newton.
